Skills & development

What AA players work on

  • Fundamentals

Throwing to a target, catching with two hands, and a steady swing.

  • Playing a position

Learning where to stand, where the ball goes, and what to do when it comes to you.

  • Being a teammate

Cheering in the dugout, taking turns, and listening to coaches.

  • Confidence

Small wins every week — a clean catch, a solid hit, a run scored.

Season expectations

What parents can expect in AA

  • An evaluation day before the draft (Fall 2026: August 1). It helps coaches balance teams — it is not a cut.
  • One weeknight practice in most weeks, at a time your coach sets after the draft.
  • Mostly Saturday games, with a few midweek games.
  • A team cap and jersey. You provide a glove, cleats and baseball pants.

AA is the bridge between tee ball and coach pitch. Exact pitching rules for AA are set by the league each season — check the current rules on Crossbar.

Age ranges are guidance. Divisions are set by age on a season cutoff date, which has not been published for Spring 2027 yet (Fall 2026 used April 30, 2027).

Questions

AA division FAQ

My 5-year-old just did tee ball. Is AA the right next step?
If they are 5 or 6 on the season cutoff date, yes — AA is their division. No child can play down to Rookie.
Is there coach pitch in AA?
Pitching format for AA can vary by season. The league publishes current rules on Crossbar; coach pitch is confirmed for AAA (ages 7–8).
Do 5- and 6-year-olds have to try out?
There is an evaluation, not a tryout. Every registered player is placed on a team; evaluations help make teams balanced.
